Serbian spirituality and culture - 8 days/7 nights
You will find it wound up at the crossroads: crucified among fertile
plain in the North, spacious valleys in the South, mountain ranges in
the West and abundance of water in the East. But you will find the real
face of Serbia in the centre of the – Cross.
Day 1st:
Meeting of passengers and representatives of the agency at the airport. Presentation of the itinerary. Accommodation in hotel.
In the evening, visit of old bohemian quarter Skadarlija and dinner in the national restaurant with program which includes actors and musician. With this experience you will feel the spirit of Belgrade from its old times. Overnight.
Day 2nd:
Route: Belgrade
Breakfast in hotel. Sightseeing of city with a professional tour guide (mixed sightseeing by bus, by walk, by boat)
Route: The City Parliament, The Federal Parliament, Terazije Square, Republic Square, Students' Square, City Gate ("Varo kapija"), New Belgrade, Topèider Hill, Dedinje, Oslobodjenje Square, Slavija Square, Nikola Paiæ Square .( by bus duration - 2 hours )
Belgrade by boat (duration: 1 hour ). We will start the cruising from the Belgrade port. Sailing along the Danube to the confluence of the Sava into the Danube, then to Zemun, the big war island, the sport center " May 25th ", the Belgrade bridges, Cukarica branch, Ada Ciganlija ,and Ada Medjica.
Free afternoon for individual activities.
Dinner in restaurant on the river. Overnight
Day 3rd:
Route: Belgrade - Topola - Kragujevac - Sumarice memorial park - Monastery Manasija, Ravanica, Lazarica - Vrnjacka Banja
Breakfast is in the hotel. Departure.The road leads us to the South, in the interior of Serbia. First to Oplenac and to the Museum and St. George's Church, the charitable foundation of King Petar I Karadjordjevic, where there is also a family crypt of Serbian royal family Karadjordjevic.
Further on to Kragujevac town, we will visit the Memorial park "Sumarice" with Museum of the Genocide. This is the place where in World War II, Germans killed 7000 citizens of Kragujevac. Among them were three hundred pupils.
Continuinig tour to highway. On our way to Vrnjacka Spa, we will visit monastery Manasija, founded by Despot Stefan Lazarevic in the first half of the 15th century, then Ravanica monastery (founded by the Serbian Prince Lazar in the second half of the 14th century) and it is the most typical example of what is called the Morava school of Serbian medieval architecture, as well as Lazarica Court Church (founded by the Serbian Prince Lazar around 1380).
Arrival at Vrnjacka spa in the afternoon, accommodation in hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 4th:
Route: Vrnjacka banja - Kalenic monastery - Ljubostinja monastery - Zica monastery - Studenica monastery - Novi Pazar
Breakfast in hotel and departure to open air museum Kalenic. This area can also be recognized by the Kalenic Monastery, spiritual and cultural centre, which is protected by the country.Break for monastery tour and refreshment.
Further on , we will visit monastery Ljubostinja, a female monastery (the 15th century), charitable foundation of Empress Milica (the wife of Serbian prince Lazar) which is one of the most important monuments of the Morava school and monastery Zica (the 18th century), charitable foundation of Stefan Prvovencani, where in accordance with tradition the keeper of the Seal of old Serbian state is.
After break in monasteries, we will continue trip to monastery Studenica.
This Monastery is one of the UNECO World Heritage Sites. Trustee of Monastery Studenica is Stefan Nemanja and Dynasty Nemanjic. Also, this is the birthplace of Serbian art and literature, and founder stone of Serbian culture.
Accommodation in hotel in Novi Pazar. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 5th:
Route: Novi Pazar - Djurdjevi stupovi - Saint Peter's Church - Sopocani monastery - Mileseva monastery - Zlatibor - Mokra Gora - Drvengrad (Wooden town)
After breakfast, we will have walking tour for a visit of Altum-Alem Mosque in Novi Pazar and then continue our trip to meet the temples of Nemanjic's Serbia in the area named Stari Ras (Old Ras) which is made of jewels of Serbian spirituality.
On a hill above Novi Pazar, we will visit monastery Djurdjevi Stupovi, charitable foundation of Stefan Nemanja, then the oldest church in Serbia -St Peter's Church and monastery Sopocani, the charitable foundation of king Uros I ( the second half of the 13th century) which is located in the valley of the River Raska, by the ancient town Ras - the center of Serbian medieval state. Some members of the royal Nemanjic family found their eternal peace here.
After break , departure to the monastery Mileseva. The church's most famous fresco is the White Angel, now regarded as a symbol of Serbia and recently adopted as an emblem for the United Nations.
Our trip continue to Zlatibor Mountain and Mokra Gora, where we will be accommodated in ethno village Drvengrad( Wooden town ), also well-known as film city of famous director Emir Kusturica. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 6th:
Route: Mokra Gora - Drvengrad (Woodentown)
After breakfast, departure to train station.You will enjoy in "Sarganska Osmica", narrow-gage railroad, shaped in number eight, 15 kilometers long, with 22 tunnels, many viaducts and bridges which represents the greatest tourist attraction in Europe at the moment. You will board the old type train "Cira" and drive along spectacular places and views. Also, you will visit film village Drvengrad (Wooden town ) where our famous film director Emir Kusturica made his film "Zivot je cudo" ( Life is a miracle ), and watch the projection of his latest documentary film.
Lunch is planned in the ethno restaurant of this unique film village and maybe, during lunch, Emir Kusturica will personally come to welcomes you. Spare time in the afternoon, dinner and overnight.
Day 7th:
Route: Mokra Gora Mountain - Ovcarsko kablarska Gorge - Belgrade
After breakfast, we will leave Mokra Gora and continue our trip to Belgrade.On our way back, we will visit Ovčarsko-Kablarska Gorge, Serbian Holy Mountain.
Ovcarsko-Kablarska Gorge is recognized for its natural beauties as well as for its cultural-historical monuments. The monasteries played an important role, not only in spiritual sense, but also in development of the national conscience, in acquiring knowledge and in teaching illiterates how to read and write, throughout the history of Serbia and Serbian people who lived on this territory for centuries.
Monasteries of Ovcarsko-Kablarska Gorge represent the evidence of the past times and each of these monasteries (there are 10 of them) has its own story related to the period of its foundation and existence on this territory.
Arrival at Belgrade in the afternoon.Accommodation. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 8th:
Breakfast. Spare time. Transfer to the airport. Departure of the group.
