The Republic of Serbia. It contains two autonomous provinces: Vojvodina and
Kosovo and Metohija.

Climate
Climate in Serbia is temperate continental, with a gradual transition between
the four seasons of the year. Summers are warm, with temperatures up to 35°
C and winters are cold and snowy, with temperature from - 10° C to 10° C).

Position
Serbia is located in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula, in the south-eastern
part of Europe.

Population
In Serbia live approximately 10 million people. The majority of the population
are Serbs (66 per cent), and numerous among 37 nationalities which also live
in Serbia are Albanians (17 per cent), Hungarians (3.5 per cent), followed by
Romanians, Croats, Bulgarians and others. All citizens have equal rights and
responsibilities and enjoy full national equality.

Capital
Serbian capital is Belgrade (original name: Beograd; White city), with a population
of 1.6 millions. Belgrade is the administrative, economic and cultural center
of Serbia.

Language
The official language is Serbian and official alphabets are both, Cyrillic
and Latin. In the areas inhabited by national minorities, the languages and
alphabets of the minorities are in official use, as provided by law.

Religion
The main religion in Serbia is Christian Orthodox, but there are also other
religious communities: Islamic, Roman Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and other.

On week days they are opened from 08.00 a.m. to 07.00 p.m.
On Saturdays they are opened from 08.00 a.m. to 03.00 p.m.
In Belgrade and other bigger cities in Serbia, some banks and post offices are
opened on Sundays.

Shops
Alimentary shops are opened daily from 06.00 a.m. to 09.00 p.m. including Saturdays,
while on Sundays they are opened from 08.00 a.m. to 02.00 p.m. In every city
or town, there are stores open 24 hours a day. Markets are opened every day
from 06.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m.

Medical care
There are organized duties in hospitals and clinics round the clock. Pharmacies
are opened from 08.00 a.m. to 08.00 p.m. on working days and on Saturdays from
08.00 a.m. to 03.00 p.m. In Belgrade and bigger cities there are on-duty pharmacies.

Foreign nationals visiting Serbia who are required to obtain visas at the diplomatic
or consular mission of the Serbia need:
- Valid Passport;
- Letter of invitation (verified by the competent Serbia authority) or an invitation
by a company for a business visit or a receipt or authorized tourist company
certifying that the travel arrangement has been paid for (letter of credit or
other payment receipt);
- Return ticket;
- Proof of sufficient funds in hard currency and
- Certificate that a health fund shall cover the medical costs in Serbia, if any.
Transit visa applicants are required to obtain the visa for the country they
will enter after the transit through Serbia.
